Pool History/Overview

The Foy Fitness & Recreation Center Pool, made possible through the generous support of John Foy (bet365中文 alumnus, class of 1964), opened  May 12, 2008, and was formally dedicated in a special ceremony on Aug. 26 that year. This outdoor pool is an exciting addition to campus recreation facilities and is open seasonally, weather dependent. With the heating system, the Foy Pool is typically open mid April through early October. There are 4 lanes for lap swimming, as well as a rope dividing the shallow and deep ends of the pool. The pool depth ranges from 3'6" to 6 feet, therefore diving is prohibited.

FAQs

All swimmers 12 and under, or anyone the Foy Lifeguards or Staff feel are not able to swim safely in the deep end, must pass a swim test before they can enter water deeper than 4'6" (designated by the buoy line) or without adult supervision.

The swim test consists of a 25-yard swim, during which the youth are asked to achieve the following:

  1. Jump into the pool, submerge fully, return to the surface and immediately begin swimming without pushing off the wall.
  2. Swims to the deep end, using front crawl or breaststroke without stopping and head staying above water for at least ¾ of the test.
  3. Tread or float for 30 seconds
  4. Exit the pool without using the ladder.

Swimmers who do not pass the swim test must remain in the shallow end of the pool within the immediate vicinity of an adult.

Very young or inexperienced swimmers must remain within the immediate vicinity of an adult in the water if they are not wearing a Coast Guard approved personal floatation device.*

*Coast Guard approved personal life vests are available for patron use. Please ask aquatic staff for assistance in fitting children.

Policies are posted near the entrance to the Foy Pool. Please review all policies on arrival.

Adaptive Recreation Opportunities

Everyone should be able to participate in physical and recreation activities.  This is accomplished through modifications in traditional sports, programs, and fitness training that allow participants and athletes to train and play alongside their non-disabled peers.

Our goal in introducing an Adaptive Recreation program is to raise awareness and provide opportunities for those of specialized populations to be physically active regardless of disability.

Our aquatics programs incorporate:
