Attendance
In order to receive VA education benefits for pursuit of a program of education, an individual must maintain satisfactory attendance and progress. VA will discontinue educational assistance if you do not maintain satisfactory attendance and progress. Attendance is unsatisfactory if the student does not attend according to the regularly prescribed standards of the educational institution in which he or she is enrolled (38 U.S.C.3034, 3474).
Attendance reporting is federally mandated for the purpose of monitoring enrollment and ensuring the accuracy of enrollment certification by the Veterans Education Benefits Office. bet365中文 does this by using the FN and FA grades.
FN and FA are punitive grades and will be reported to VA immediately.
The FN grade is “the grade awarded for courses when a student never attends the course.”
- An FN grade must be reported within the first 14 days of the course.
- An FN grade is considered as an unofficial withdrawal from the course.
- An FN grade may impact the enrollment status of a student which may result in a debt with the VA and a billing from bet365中文.
The FA grade is “the grade to be assigned as of the date at which the faculty member has determined the student has stopped attending the course and is no longer receiving instruction.”
- An FA grade must be reported within 14 days of the last date of attendance.
- An FA grade must include the last date of attendance.
- An FA grade may impact the enrollment status of a student which may result in a debt with the VA and a billing from bet365中文.
Grade Change - FA/FN Removal
If the faculty later agrees to allow the student back into the course, then the FA grade will need to be removed and the faculty will need to notify the Veterans Education Benefits Office in writing of the student’s grade change and verify the student's attendance.
*NOTE: A grade change to an F does not indicate attendance in the course on its own and will not allow certification of the course to VA. A student will additionally require a verification of course attendance from the instructor of the course.
Enrollment Status Changes
In accordance to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' regulations, our office is required to report any changes in your enrollment status (drop or withdraw). Please keep in mind that when you drop a course or withdraw from the term, this can negatively affect your benefits. You may be billed by the University and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Debt Management Office will send an overpayment letter with instructions on how to resolve this matter. The VA determines the amount of the overpayment.
Drop/Add Courses
Reduction and increases in the student's enrollment may impact their VA education benefits. Students may want to consult the bet365中文 Veterans Education Benefits Office prior to making course adjustments.
Withdrawals
VA will not pay education benefits to an individual for a course from which the individual withdraws or receives a non-punitive grade (W) which is not used in computing the requirements for graduation (38 U.S.C. 3680 and §21.4136).
